Burn ("we", "our", "the app") is a bookmark management app that helps you read and organize saved links. Your privacy matters to us.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address to create and manage your account. We do not access your password.

Bookmark Data: URLs, titles, and content you save in the app. This data is processed to provide AI summaries and categorization.

Device Information: App version, iOS version, and device model. Collected with analytics events and when you submit feedback.

Usage Data: We collect basic app usage events (such as app opens and feature usage) with a randomly generated device identifier. When you are signed in, events are linked to your account to improve your experience. We do not use third-party analytics SDKs or advertising trackers.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide core app functionality (saving, reading, and organizing bookmarks)
To generate AI summaries and categorizations of your saved content
To sync your bookmarks across devices (when signed in)
To analyze app usage and improve the experience
To respond to feedback you submit

3. Chrome Extension (Bookmark Autopsy)

Our Chrome extension scans your browser bookmarks entirely locally. No bookmark data is uploaded to any server. The extension requests the following permissions:

Bookmarks: To read and analyze your browser bookmarks
Storage: To save scan results locally in your browser

When you use the optional AI diagnosis feature, only aggregate statistics (total count, top domains, year distribution) are sent to our server for analysis. Individual bookmark URLs and titles are never transmitted.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

Supabase: Authentication and cloud database for bookmark sync
DashScope (Alibaba Cloud): AI model (Qwen) for content summarization
Jina AI: Web content extraction
Google Sign-In: Optional authentication method
Apple Sign-In: Optional authentication method

These services process your data only as needed to provide their functionality. We do not sell your data to any third party.

5. Data Storage

Your bookmarks are stored locally on your device using SwiftData. If you sign in, bookmarks are also synced to our cloud database (Supabase, hosted on AWS). Cloud data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.

6. Data Retention

Active bookmarks: Automatically expire after 24 hours
Sparks: Expire after 7 days unless vaulted
Ash: Permanently deleted 24 hours after expiry
Vaulted bookmarks: Retained until you delete them
Account data: Deleted when you delete your account

7. Data Deletion

You can delete your data at any time:

Clear bookmarks: Settings → Clear All Bookmarks (removes local data)
Delete account: Settings → Delete Account permanently removes your account and all associated data from our servers, including bookmarks, sparks, vault items, subscription records, and usage data. This action is immediate and cannot be undone.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access: View all your data within the App (bookmarks, sparks, vault items)
Correction: Edit your bookmark tags, notes, and account nickname
Deletion: Delete individual bookmarks, clear all data, or delete your entire account
Export: Export your vault as Markdown through Settings → Export Vault

9. Children's Privacy

Burn is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page.
